Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) is a semiconductor compound with photovoltaic effect. It has a high absorption coefficient - 100 times higher than silicon. The band gap width of cadmium telluride is more suitable for photovoltaic energy conversion than silicon. To absorb the same amount of light, the thickness of CdTe film needed is only one hundredth that of silicon wafer. Today, the world record of cadmium telluride thin film conversion efficiency has reached 21% in the laboratory. It is mainly used for packaging glass in solar cells and is an essential component of solar photovoltaic cells. Embossed ultra transparent glass is a type of embossed glass with low iron content, high transmittance, and low reflectivity, produced by replacing ordinary glass ore with extremely low iron content ore raw materials and using a similar process as ordinary embossed glass. It is made by pressing a special pyramid shaped pattern on the surface of ultra white glass using a special embossing roller. For the most widely used 3.2mm and 4mm glass in China, the solar transmittance generally reaches 90% to 92%. The standard PV panel is made of a single layer tempered glass of 3.2mm thick, with a transparent or colored PET back sheet. The total thickness of module is between 4.5-5mm. Dual glass solution is becoming nowadays the trend for future PV industry, with advantage of better mechanical strength and better weathering performance due to the fact the back sheet is made of a similar inorganic glass as that of front sheet. The standard dual glass panel is made of 2.0/2.0m semi-tempered glass, encapsulated by POE/EVA or PVB/PVB. Although the total thickness is reduced to 4.0 to 4.3mm, the panel is getting heavier due to high density of glass (2.5kg/dm3). So, the PV industry as a whole is developing towards "lightweight" while keeping good mechanical properties to meet relevant regulations and norms. Float glass is a type of high-quality flat glass produced by the "float glass" process, which is the most common method for manufacturing large sheets of flat glass. In this process, molten glass is poured onto a molten tin bath, where it spreads out and forms a continuous ribbon. As the glass cools and solidifies, it floats on top of the molten tin, resulting in a smooth and uniform surface on both sides.

Laminated glass is a composite glass product made of two or more pieces of glass with one or more layers of organic polymer intermediate film sandwiched between them. After special high-temperature preloading (or vacuum pumping) and high-temperature and high-pressure processing, the glass and the intermediate film are permanently bonded together. Common intermediate films of laminated glass include PVB, SGP, EVA, PU, etc. In addition, there are some special ones, such as laminated glass with colored intermediate film, laminated glass with SGX type printing intermediate film, and laminated glass with XIR type LOW-E intermediate film.
